Sharia-womenPakistani Muslim body, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), has come up with a controversial declaration after its recent 192nd meeting by ruling that the very existence of women is un-Islamic and against the will of Allah.

Founded as a constitutional body responsible for giving legal advice on Islamic issues to the Pakistani government and parliament, the CII recommends laws conforming to the Qur’an and Sunnah to parliament and provincial assemblies.

At its most recent meeting, the CII ruled that the very existence of women contradicts the Sharia.   CII Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani noted that women by existing defied the laws of nature and suggested that to protect Islam and the Sharia, women should be forced to stop existing as soon as possible.

Other declarations

At its previsous191st meeting, the CII had ruled that laws relating to a minimum marriage age were un-Islamic.   Sheikh Shirani said:

“We can divide all women in the world into two distinct categories, those who are haram and those who are makrooh. Now the difference between haram and makrooh is that the former is categorically forbidden while the latter is really really disliked.   “Any woman that exercises her will is haram, absolutely haram and is conspiring against Islam and the Ummah, whereas those women who are totally subservient can reach the status of being makrooh. Such is the generosity of our ideology and such is the endeavour of Muslim men like us who are the true torchbearers of gender equality.”

At their meeting, CII council members deliberated on various historic references related to women and concluded that each woman is a source of fitna and a perpetual enemy of Islam.

They also decided that by restricting them to their subordinate, bordering on slave status, the momineen and the Mujahideen can ensure that Islam continues to be the religion of peace, prosperity and gender equality.

Gender equality

One CII official said that international standards of gender equality should not be used if they contradict Islam or the constitution of Pakistan that had incorporated Islam and had given sovereignty to Allah.

Among other things, the official advised the Pakistani government to shun Western concepts of gender equality.   He added:

“We don’t believe in western ideals and nothing that contradicts Islam should ever be paid heed. In any case by giving women the higher status of being makrooh, it’s us Muslims who have paved the way for true, Sharia compliant feminism.”

PS: Some Muslims who spoke on the issue to NewsPlus, on condition of anonymity, said the declaration might have been reported out of context.

  1. Tajudeen, quite educative but don’t you think all that you have said about the rights of women is almost exactly the opposite of what is happening around the world today where women are seen as less important? I do not mean to deviate from the write up but I believe that if many other Muslims do not understand the role of women in Islam like you do, then there is bound to be some misconceptions on every angle. Take Malala for example or the little girl that killed her husband and friends at her wedding ceremony after being forced to marry.

  2. This is basically a misleading story and the ruling can only be fabricated as it is against the very basis of Islam that equates man with woman in many aspects. If not, by now,the ruling would have stirred reactions world wide, not only from renowned Muslim scholars but from the ever-critical Western media. How come no single human rights activist has raised an eye-brow on the ruling.

Islam proclaims that men and women are created equal but not similar, since they are designed to play different roles.

The holy Prophet Muhammad said: If you educate a man you educate an individual and if you educate a woman, you educate a community.” He also said anyone who successfully trains a girl-child will enter Paradise.

He forbade discrimination against women, forbade terminating girl-child pregnancy or killing them for fear of poverty. Islam gave them rights to own property, have a share of inheritance, after the death of either the father or the husband (a feat that is still far fetched and unattainable in many un-Islamic cultures and traditions today). Islam forbids the obnoxious tradition that forces women to be married against their will, particularly after the death of their husbands. Women were already liberated in Islam even before the dark ages when European were debating whether women have souls and whether they were human, half-human or sub-human

Only novices and the ‘uninitiated’ who only read what comes their way without verification or further readings would take this hook, line and sinker. In this age of internet abracadabra, anything is possible just as Pastor Bosun Emmanuel made to appear on wikipedia, an information which purportedly linked former military President Ibrahim Babangida to donating millions of dollars to OIC to annihilate all non-Muslims in OIC member-countries at the time he was addressing a congregation at the Prayer Camp and made it disappear immediately afterwards from the site.

To say the least, this is quite unfortunate.
